This jacket-style bodice is called a polonaise. It is an authentic design taken from a period in the Victorian era when bustles were not always worn. The draping at the sides and back adds width without the weight and bulk of wire supports. It's meant to be worn with a ruffled walking skirt for authenticity, but we think it looks just as nice with a modern crinoline. This style is flattering on any figure, and it's comfortable enough to wear for any dressy occasion. Have it made up in fancy taffeta, brocade or velvet for a traditional look, or in PVC for a fetishy twist. Either way, you're sure to be belle of the ball! This striking version of our Polonaise is made of a taffeta-like fabric. It was specially made to fit over a bustle and is shown here over our Victorian underskirt with a 12" gathered ruffle. Please note that while we have a source for this fabric, it is a "theatrical" sort. While it looks very lovely, it is not a true satin or taffeta and the stripes are printed on the fabric rather than being woven into it. It also must be lined to prevent undergarments from showing through (particularly in this case as Jacqueline's corset was black). $450 US
